The most common historic paintings known to this day, art of handprints is a worldwide phenomenon mystery and remains a big secret even to this day.  Several authors have commented on the possibility of pastoral Khoikhoi groups being involved in the production of rock paintings in South-Western Cape of South African, going back at least 2000 years ago.

Questions remain open also about the meaning of these works of art, but we can say one thing that a brand new approach was met in handprints creation, drastically changing the role of the painters and painting.

People normally gathered together for various reasons so hand printing was a group activity, where every one of them left their mark behind. Most artworks believed to have been made by young people in their teens, when performing sacred rituals and traditions or doing some spiritual practices of healing.

Care Guide

Turn the garments inside out.

Wash them in cold water with a mild detergent (hand wash or gentle cycle on your washing machine at 30-40°C or 86-104°F)

This is very important: DO NOT USE FABRIC SOFTENER! It will eventually ‘eat’ the paint away.

After washing lay your item flat to dry or hang it up, to drip dry. Do not put the painted side towards direct sunlight.

Nevertheless that linen does not need ironing, because one can wear it “raw”, if it gets too “crushed”, then turn the item inside out before ironing it. Please do not use steam on the painted part. Put a cloth or a sheet of baking paper in-between.

Do not use bleach!

Do not Dry Clean!
