The rock carvings in Tanum, in the north of Bohuslän, are a unique artistic achievement not only for their rich and varied motifs (depictions of humans and animals, weapons, boats and other subjects) but also for their cultural and chronological unity. They reveal the life and beliefs of people in Europe during the Bronze Age and are remarkable for their large numbers and outstanding quality.

The real meaning of this image is unknown, however some authorities at UNESCO made an interesting observation by analysing it as the image of the sun, which carried by two female, possibly Goddesses.

Scandinavian ancient people were sophisticated craftsmen and very competent travellers by water. Dates for the Art vary with the region. These images have been dated to roughly 1800BC, however they might be much older, since no real dating is possible.

Due to the size of the findings and complexity of the Art, the Tanum site falls under UNESCO World Heritage Convention.

Care Guide

Turn the garments inside out.

Wash them in cold water with a mild detergent (hand wash or gentle cycle on your washing machine at 30-40°C or 86-104°F)

This is very important: DO NOT USE FABRIC SOFTENER! It will eventually ‘eat’ the paint away.

After washing lay your item flat to dry or hang it up, to drip dry. Do not put the painted side towards direct sunlight.

Nevertheless that linen does not need ironing, because one can wear it “raw”, if it gets too “crushed”, then turn the item inside out before ironing it. Please do not use steam on the painted part. Put a cloth or a sheet of baking paper in-between.

Do not use bleach!

Do not Dry Clean!
