The image was originally Created in Tassili n’Ajjer plateau,  south-eastern Algeria, which borders Libya, Niger, and Mali. The pannel covers an area of roughly 72,000 sq. km. and contains one of the most important collections of prehistoric rock art in the world; it was inducted into the UNESCO World Heritage Site list in 1982.

The style is estimated somewhere between ‘Pastoral Period’ and possibly later ‘Horse and Libyan-Warrior Period’, which puts this painting roughly to 3500BC to 2500BC. The official story according to David Coulsen, Executive Chairman of TARA – Trust for African Rock Art, states:
“The image represents women with long flowing dresses (right) and two young warriors. These figures originally would have had white ‘stick’ heads, which have now disappeared.”

However, Spanish authorities in 1976 concluded, that the image represents four women taken to some kind of craft.

We painted the “stick heads”, because that is was how the original pictographs looked like. This actually makes  the image came to life.

Care Guide

Turn the garments inside out.

Wash them in cold water with a mild detergent (hand wash or gentle cycle on your washing machine at 30-40°C or 86-104°F)

This is very important: DO NOT USE FABRIC SOFTENER! It will eventually ‘eat’ the paint away.

After washing lay your item flat to dry or hang it up, to drip dry. Do not put the painted side towards direct sunlight.

Nevertheless that linen does not need ironing, because one can wear it “raw”, if it gets too “crushed”, then turn the item inside out before ironing it. Please do not use steam on the painted part. Put a cloth or a sheet of baking paper in-between.

Do not use bleach!

Do not Dry Clean!
